Library Services

  • Internet access and word processing are available via four public computers for 30 minutes/day/person.
    Book Search Only is available on our Gates Staying Connected Grant computer.

  • Wireless Internet Access is available from 7AM until 8PM inside the Library and as far as the Monument cannon.
  • Printers are black and white and the cost of printing is $.10/page.

    Anyone 18 years and under must have written parental permission via the Internet Accessibility Use form before using any computer. The internet policy applies to all computer users, is available from the staff and is strictly enforced. If you have any questions about the internet use please ask immediately. Internet misuse could result in denial of all computer privileges.

    At-Home access to two important Internet research sources is available via the Maine School and Library Network (MSLN)

    MARVEL! is an online resource that includes periodicals,
    newspapers and reference books that can be accessed from
    any Internet-connected computer in Maine. Visit MARVEL!

    URSUS is access to the State System for Inter-Library
    Loan (ILL)

    Our patrons can access the ILL system via
    http://ursus.caps.maine.edu/ Through the website you
    can leisurely investigate the books available via ILL.
    Print out those that you'd like us to order and bring
    your request to the Library or email it (please see
    Contact Librarian.The Vinalhaven Public Library must
    submit the ILL request. We fax or email the request and
    the book is mailed from the host Library. Circulation
    periods vary library to library. The Friends of the
    Library graciously pay ILL postage costs.

  • EBSCO is a software system purchased by the State of
    Maine for access by all Libraries in the State.
  • It is a rich resource for all ages.Briefly, via
    EBSCO patrons have access to thousands of periodicals and
    research sources. Many are full text. Go into EBSCO to
    appreciate the wealth of information available. Access to

    EBSCO is available to Maine residents living or
    attending school away from the state.
