STAFF and TRUSTEES

Vinalhaven Public Library’s LIBRARY DIRECTOR

Jennifer Wadleigh

Jen has been involved in the library for many years, most recently as the Chair of the Trustee Board. Jen is a graduate of Dartmouth College and has a library certification as well as a nearly completed second bachelor’s degree in library science.

Jen grew up down the street from the library and has spent much time at the library over the years. As the director she will work towards supporting the library as a vital part of our community and encouraging others to discover and enjoy all it has to offer.

Vinalhaven Public Library’s ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN

Linda Whittington

Linda Whittington is a Vinalhaven native and has loved the library since her mother first brought her here as a little girl. Over the years she has spent many, many hours here, studying with friends and classmates while in school, or searching for the perfect book to read. Linda was hired as assistant librarian in April 2007 and has totally enjoyed every aspect of her job in the 17 years she has worked here, whether it is working the circulation desk, cataloguing new books and DVD's, doing Interlibrary Loans, or greeting new visitors. She feels we are very fortunate to have such a beautiful library on the island and encourages everyone to use it often.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Deborah Jake Tuminski

"Reading gives us someplace to go, when we have to stay where we are." Living on an island for the last 15 years, Jake has found that reading is a place that inspires imagination, and creates the opportunity for travel and adventure. Recently retired from teaching, Jake enjoys taking care of her granddaughter,  keeping bees, swimming, biking and skiing. She is happy to serve as a trustee on the Vinalhaven Library and hopes that the community uses this valuable resource that has so much to offer. "You can find magic wherever you look, sit back and relax, all you need is a book" Dr. Seuss

Anne Mason

I am so excited to be a library trustee! I have always loved books and libraries. I worked at the Portland Public Library for many high school and college summers, running the children’s summer reading program on the Bookmobile. After graduating from Simmons College in Boston, I went to work in the International Division of Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company for many years. I stayed home when my children were young and then began working as an elementary school librarian at a K-5 school in South Portland.

Libraries can be the heart of a community, meeting interests of young and old, and are a vital haven.

Caitlin Clapham

First and foremost Caitlin is a mother of three young children. Caitlin is an advocate for literacy enrichment and learning in public libraries. She is very passionate about children’s programming for our island families. Her favorite literature to read is non-fiction and story books by Maine authors with her children.

Mark Jackson

Mark Jackson wants the Vinalhaven library to be inviting and accessible to all. A retired teacher, he values access to knowledge by all means possible, from books to lectures to computers and beyond. As a member of the board of trustees, Mark hopes to further the value of the Vinalhaven library as a public good.

Pamela Kittredge

Pamela Kittredge first visited Vinalhaven at six months of age to meet her grandparents who were born here (as was her dad and her eldest brother). Pam moved to VH permanently in 2012 with her husband, Hal. Much of her work life has been spent in public libraries-in youth services, acquisitions and as a Director. As a VH Trustee, she looks forward to working with the Friends, the Director, and community members to strengthen and support the Vinalhaven Public Library. Pam is currently serving as a Minister in the United Church of Christ.

Jill Oakes

Jill Oakes is a native of Vinalhaven. Having grown up in a home right behind the Vinalhaven Public Library, she spent many hours reading in the children's section and at an older age, using the quiet space to complete homework. As an adult, Jill has taught at the Vinalhaven School for close to 40 years. She has a spot in her heart for the library that has brought much joy to her over the years and hopes the island youth will continue to appreciate this beautiful library for many years to come.

Hiata Corduan

Hiata Corduan has loved reading from an early age; childhood favorites included Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, and Agatha Christie, as well as historical biographies. Her long love of reading led to a Political Science/History degree and ultimately opening a bookstore in Vermont, which she ran for nearly twelve years before selling in 2020. Currently she enjoys reading mysteries, literary fiction, cookbooks, and travel books.

Hiata began coming to Vinalhaven in the early 80's and originally lived just a few doors down from the Library on Chestnut Street. She is excited to share her love of reading & strong belief in community libraries with the Vinalhaven community.
